My heartfelt prayers are with the family of Dunith Wellalage, whose father sadly passed away from a heart attack. 💔 Dunith received the heartbreaking news right after the Sri Lanka–Afghanistan match. 🙏

It's taken 180 internationals for Nepal before they registered their first win against a Full Member side and what a victory too. They were outstanding in the field and with the ball. The tone was set early on with the run-out by Bhurtel to get Mayers and Nepal richly deserve their victory. Now they would be looking for a series win when these two sides meet in the 2nd game on Monday (29th). Work for West Indies to do and they will know it. It's time to escape now. We will be there on Monday for the 2nd game. Do join us then. For now it's bye bye and ta, ta.
Rohit Paudel | Player of the Match and Nepal captain: It's feeling great, a long wait to beat a Test playing country, that too it has come in a series we have hosted in UAE. 150-160 was par here, looking at the previous series here, teams were winning after scoring 150-160. 80-90 per cent we have matched our skills, the spinners were great today as well as the experienced Karan and Sompal. Want to dedicate this award to the martyrs back home who participated in the protest. The last month has not been great for us, so if we can give a little bit of happiness to the people of Nepal, I think that would be great. (Has a message in Nepali for the people back home) It's just the beginning, lot more to come. The mindset was very clear, if we are coming here, we are there to win the series. We are still grounded, we will do the process right and we will see whatever comes next.
Akeal Hosein | West Indies captain: Both sides played good cricket, unfortunately we did not do good work to win. Thought it was a decent score, good pitch, maybe we gave away 15 runs too much, having said that we were very confident in chasing this down. They fielded well and they got two run-outs and those things break the back of a batting team. (on his batting unit) They have got the talent and the skill, it's about going out there and executing. We need to set a better platform, to give the guys a fair chance to come and chase it down. Without that, we will always be behind the eight-ball.
Kushal Bhurtel: Feeling really happy, to beat West Indies one of the toughest teams in T20s. Whatever I did with the bat or the ball, I love to do. Today feels really good. Back home it's a very critical situation, after this win, we give a lot of happiness. Credit to all the bowlers who bowled really well. We felt 150 was enough for the inexperienced West Indies side.
Stats by Shashikant Singh
Batters dismissed hit wicket on T20I debut
Hayden Walsh (USA) vs UAE, ICCA Dubai, 2019
Navin Bidaisee (WI) vs NEP, Sharjah, 2025*
Lowest total successfully defended by Nepal (T20I)
117/8 vs OMAN, Al Amerat, 2022
141/5 vs AFG, Chattogram, 2014 WC
148/8 vs WI, Sharjah, 2025*
149/8 vs HK, Chattogram, 2014 WC
First win for Nepal against a full member team in eight T20I games. They won against Afghanistan in the 2014 World Cup, but Afghanistan was an associate team then.

Another loss for West Indies against an Associate team after they lost against Scotland at Hobart in the 2022 World Cup. They lost against Ireland in 2014 and against Afghanistan in the 2016 T20 World Cup, when both those teams were an associate member.
22:09 Local Time, 18:09 GMT, 23:39 IST: Historic day for Nepal. A first win against a Test playing nation. They now are taking a lap around the ground, thanking their supporters. With all the recent happenings back home, this should feel like a much-needed balm. The fielding from Nepal was outstanding today - led by Airee and Bhurtel - apart from a couple of drops, that's what set them apart and the bowling backed it up. West Indies may not have their stars here but still they would have backed themselves to chase this down. The inexperience in the batting lineup though showed as they were choked by the spinners and they played too many dots during the middle overs. Regular wickets set them back too and it was too much for the likes of Holder, Akeal Hosein and Fabian Allen at the end to do. Nepal held their nerve nicely and closed it out to mark a glorious day in their cricketing history. They got so close to upsetting South Africa in the T20 World Cup in West Indies and now have dealt a blow to the men from the Caribbean. They go 1-0 up in the series. Stay tuned for the post-match stuff...

India vs West Indies, 2nd Test

IND 518/5 d
WI 248 & 252/3 (f/o) (78) CRR: 3.23
Day 4: Lunch Break - West Indies trail by 18 runs

Welcome back for the post-lunch session, folks! The West Indies dominated the final session yesterday and continued their good work this morning. If they keep batting with the same intent, India could find themselves in a spot of bother. Let's see if the second new ball which is due in 2 overs, creates any magic for India..
-- West Indies have played just 9.7% false shots this session – the lowest for them across the ten sessions they batted this series
11:32 Local Time, 06:02 GMT | Lunch, day four: Morning session - 29 overs | 79 runs | 1 wicket. Another solid session for West Indies. Bumrah bowled a testing spell but couldn't find the breakthrough. Campbell recorded his maiden Test ton in his 50th innings and he along with Hope continued from where they left yesterday as they remained unscathed in the first hour. Jadeja broke the 177-run stand by trapping Campbell lbw from round the wicket as the left-handed batter attempted the reverse-sweep. Chase and Hope have been unperturbed by the Indian spinners and WI's deficit is now under 20 runs. It's been hard work for the Indian bowlers as the pitch has got slower. Can the visitors gain a significant lead? Hope is just 8 runs away from his century and the second new ball will be available after a couple of overs. Join us in 40 minutes to find out how the middle session pans out.

Fortune Barishal requests for BPL to be rescheduled

Bangladesh Premier League's defending champions Fortune Barishal have requested the BPL governing council to reschedule the tournament as they are struggling to prepare for the tournament on short notice.

The league's governing council had recently announced that the upcoming edition of the BPL will consist of only five teams and shall commence from mid-December. Following the announcement, the body also invited Expression of Interest for franchise ownership rights for BPLT20.

"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially opened the process for Expressions of Interest (EOI) from reputed business houses, companies, and entities for the acquisition of Franchise Ownership Rights in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 (BPLT20)," BCB said in a statement on Sunday (October12).

"The rights will be granted for five consecutive editions, [from the] 12th-16th seasons of the tournament," it added.

"The BCB has outlined ten (10) potential franchise regions as follows: Barishal, Chattogram, Cumilla, Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh, Noakhali, Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Sylhet.

"As part of a transparent and merit-based process, the BPL Governing Council will consider a minimum of five (5) eligible EOI submissions for the 12th edition of the BPL T20 (2026)," it added.

Since the announcement was made there has been wide-scale speculation that Fortune Barishal will not be part of the tournament, though their owner Mizanur Rahman begs to differ.

"I haven't said that I won't play in the BPL. All I said is that in this short span of time it will be difficult for a team like us to play, and so we wanted them to extend the time. Everyone is calling me and I told them (BCB) that it's too small and it is becoming impossible for a team like us (to prepare for the tournament)," Mizanur told Cricbuzz.

"Even if we have players, we have to organize the funds and the instruments that we need to buy [players], we have to bring them and in this one or one-and-a-half months even if we work for 24 hours we cannot do that. I have requested for a different slot and now let's see what they say.

"I haven't said that we won't play but if the slot is changed in that case we would...because we have always been with the game and we are not out of the game," he said.

"I don't think any good team will be willing to play in this short time and you can even ask Rangpur (Riders), and what I feel is that team that doesn't have the experience will be willing to play.

"I just wanted to buy some time...We can do it in April and May, and what is the problem?! You can give the team (for the next cycle) and give us some time so that we can organize it well. I don't think there is any point in doing it just for the sake of it and I don't think it would be right to do BPL without us," he said.

Mizanur also cleared air about their skipper Tamim Iqbal after the former international announced that all kinds of cricket is being boycotted under the leadership of newly elected BCB president Aminul Islam.

"I don't think there is any such thing (that Tamim won't play in BPL) and I think he said about it (boycotting cricket) regarding normal game," he said. "If the BPL happens I will request him to play and I feel that if Barishal plays he will play."

Santner, Ravindra return for England T20Is

Mitchell Santner and Rachin Ravindra have returned to the New Zealand squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against England, beginning in Christchurch on Saturday (October 18). While Santner will resume leadership duties after recovering from abdominal surgery, Ravindra is back from the facial injury that kept him out of the recent series against Australia.

Squad: Mitchell Santner (C), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Bevon Jacobs, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Robinson, Tim Seifert (wk)
Ben Sears, who suffered a left-hamstring injury during training last week, will miss the series. As will Kane Williamson, but he is expected to be available for the three-match ODI series that follows.

"Kane had to overcome a minor medical issue in the past month, and we agreed he needs some more time to get himself physically ready to return," head coach Rob Walter said. "He's obviously a world class player and we're hoping these two weeks will ensure he's ready for the ODIs against England and the following tour by West Indies."

New Zealand have retained much of the squad that faced Australia, with Jimmy Neesham keeping his place after a strong showing as Ravindra's replacement in that series. Ish Sodhi, though, has been dropped.

Finn Allen (foot), Adam Milne (ankle), Will O'Rourke (back), Glenn Phillips (groin) and Lockie Ferguson (hamstring) were all unavailable for selection.
