Windows 11: adoption is very slow, Windows 10 is still well ahead

Statcounter has just revealed the respective market shares of the different versions of Microsoft's operating system, and the least we can say is that Windows 11 does not seem to be quickly attracting users.

Since the release of Windows 11, users have never really scrambled to install the new version of the operating system.

A year after its launch, Statcounter announced that Windows 11 had attracted only 15.44% of users, far from Windows 10 with more than 70%.

A new report from Statcounter for the month of January 2023 indicates that adoption of Windows 11 is still very slow, as only 18.13% have taken the plunge and installed the new version of Microsoft's operating system.

The problem is that it's only 1.16% more than the previous month.

Windows 10 remains the most popular version

While one might think that Windows 10 is losing more and more users, this is not the case.

According to data from Statcounter, in January 2023, Windows 10 still had 68.75% market share, up 0.8% from the previous month.

We don't know exactly what this increase in the market share of the old version is due to, but it should be remembered that Microsoft recently announced that it was stopping selling licenses for Windows 10.

Some users then may have jumped at the chance to install the old version before they were withdrawn from sale.

The adoption of Windows 11 has therefore been in real decline since its launch, since we see that the number of installations is plummeting.

At this rate, it will be several more years before the new version becomes more popular than Windows 10.

Another study by AdDupplex placed Windows 11 at around 23.1% market share earlier last year, but that's still nearly three times less than Windows 10.

For their part, Windows 8 and 8.1 still have 0.62% and 2.331% of users, respectively, while Windows 7 falls below the 10% mark for the first time, at 9.62%, down 1, 58% compared to December.

Users seem to be quickly abandoning the old version of the operating system, probably because it hasn't received any updates since January 10.
